TCAPP is currently designing surveys to better understand the relationships between communities and police in metro Atlanta. Using survey data, we will select three to four areas for pilot programs.
These pilot programs will seek to instill and expand Community & Problem-Oriented Policing for both communities and law enforcement via a CPOP concepts course, local & international exchanges, and information sharing.
In order to best understand the relationships between communities and police throughout metro Atlanta, we've worked hard to listen first before presenting solutions. It's important to us to understand what the issues are, who's involved, and what is already being done.
We've spoken with leaders and individuals from a variety of community groups and law enforcement agencies - in Georgia, the US, and internationally. We've also met with numerous elected officials, academic experts, retired officers, policing experts, community leaders, and peer organizations. Read more about our history here.
One common thread we've found is that everyone agrees that a conversation about policing in America is happening right now. There are many different voices and perspectives in this conversation, but no one has denied that a renewed focus on policing has occurred.
We're bolstered by the fact that, as TCAPP enters this conversation, nearly every group or person we've met with has welcomed us and is eager to support our work. Every person we meet gives us a better picture of the relationship between communities and police. We look forward to seeing how we can make an impact.
